For the past four years the name Salmonstock has been intimately linked to the Renewable Resources Foundation and the struggle to protect Bristol Bay and its watershed from the potential devastation of the proposed Pebble Mine. Both the festival and the organization have been extraordinarily effective at achieving interlinking success to both endeavors.
Salmonstock galvanized the people of Alaska in a manner rarely seen, providing the information and power resulting in resounding opposition to the Pebble Mine in the recent election. Over the last few years, with your help, we have stymied the destruction of the largest remaining wild salmon fishery on the planet. However, the fight is not over and to save financial resources in anticipation of future battles for Bristol Bay, we have downsized and moved from our downtown office and are cutting back on our expensive outreach efforts.
It has been a joyous, memorable, and very successful run, but on the heels of recent successes, we have decided NOT to proceed with producing Salmonstock 2015. With this decision, Salmonstock's Music Producer, Jim Stearns and Assistant Music Producer, Jeff Abel are working with Kachemak Bay Conservation Society to create, Salmonfest, with many of the same wonderful attributes as Salmonstock but with a spin all their own.
Thank you for the overwhelming support and four epic years of "Fish, Fun, and Music". We couldn't have done it without you!
